Stichting Kastanje is a Dutch nonprofit foundation established to bridge the cultural gap between Ukrainian refugees and Dutch society through art and cultural exchange. Founded by Mariana Dzhulai, a Ukrainian art curator displaced by the war, the foundation aims to support Ukrainian cultural heritage and foster inclusive dialogue in the Netherlands, where over 129,000 Ukrainians have sought refuge by June 2025.

Mission and Vision

The mission is to develop cross-cultural dialogue and understanding between Ukrainian and Dutch cultures, promoting inclusion and diversity. The vision is to
create physical and digital spaces where both communities can engage in cultural exchange, nurturing empathy and mutual respect.

Key Objectives and Strategy

The foundation seeks to showcase Ukrainian culture’s richness, support Ukrainian artists, build empathy, and maintain cultural roots among Ukrainians in the Netherlands. Programs include exhibitions, festivals, educational workshops, and fostering partnerships with Dutch and European cultural institutions. Until a permanent Dutch-Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Amsterdam is established, activities will continue at various locations.
